BetterArts presents a Forest Art Studio for Saplings for children ages 3-10 at our Better Farm campus Aug. 22 and 23. This program is made free with the support of the Northern New York Community Foundation’s Wilcox Community Fund for Theresa.
We will spend two one-day sessions (10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day) exploring nature, gathering materials (leaves, sticks, plants, rocks, clay, and other found objects), and making art that is age-appropriate and customized. Activities may include:
Morning walk gathering natural materials and observing nature
Prints from natural objects (leaves, flowers, bark)
Small sculptures (fairy houses, clay-rich dirt)
Natural dyes (beets, sumac, kitchen scraps) for tie-dye
Painting on nature (found rocks and bark, chicken, turkey, and hawk feathers)
Felting with alpaca fiber
Paper making
Natural crowns
Mandalas
Plein air painting
Activities will be tailored by age group, with groups rotating between activities:
Group 1 does activities ABC while group 2 does activities CAB, for example so that the different age groups will not be mingling with each other)
At the conclusion of the second day, artwork will be displayed in the on-site gallery for a soft "opening" for friends and families of participants to enjoy immediately following the camp’s conclusion. All participants are further invited to leave a piece behind to display in our gallery at Better Festival on August 29.
Registration is now open! Please click here to register. Each camper requires their own registration. All guardians are encouraged to stay on-site during the activities, either hands-on with their children or enjoying the lounge and coworking space in the Art Barn or other outdoor recreational areas on the property.
