THANK YOU, REDWOOD!! This year’s ‘An Evening With Better Radio’ fundraiser for the radio station here brought in enough funds to cover operating costs for a full year. Big ups to everyone who showed up, donated, contributed art, and listened in. Your support ensures the continuation of this weird and wonderful project. Also shoutout to the brilliant ensemble of volunteer DJs and the unwavering commitment of the BetterArts board for keeping the cultural phenomenon that is Better Radio alive and well. If you’re not already listening, now’s the time! Check us out at 88.5 FM locally or stream the station 24/7 at betterradio.airtime.pro — you can learn more about this and other projects at betterArts.org. #betterarts #betterradio #whereinthehellisredwoodny #weneedmoreweird #forartssake

Please join us for a very special fundraising event from 6-9 pm Saturday, May 30, for Better Radio, Redwood’s first-and only!—radio station. The second annual “Evening With Better Radio” provides vital support to our 100% volunteer-run and commercial-free station! The night features an open mic, trivia, cash bar, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and silent auction. The event is hosted by our sister organization betterArts, a Redwood nonprofit increasing access to the arts and owner-operator of Better Radio. There is a suggested $10 donation to attend (day-of or in advance) but no barrier to entry. All are welcome! If you’re interested in performing in the open mic portion of the evening or donating an item for our silent auction, please email info@betterarts.org. Poets and storytellers also welcome at the open mic! If you can’t attend, be sure to listen in live night-of at betterradio.airtime.pro or terrestrially at 88.5 FM.

Thanks to @shearreliefllc for another set of sweet summer ‘dos for the alpacas 🦙 Did you know alpacas hate hot weather? They’re very sensitive to high-temp days so annual spring shearing is a must for these beauties. The fiber gets processed by regional mills and is available in our Etsy shop! All fiber sales go directly back into the care of these camelids. You can check out that gorgeous yarn at www.etsy.com/shop/BetterFarm

Children of all ages are invited to join us from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. this Saturday, May 2, for a free tree-planting event at Better Farm. We will be planting 50 red maple saplings, courtesy of New York State’s School Seedling Program, while teaching about ecosystems and the valuable role that trees play. Planting and tending these trees with young people offers a hands-on way to understand natural systems, observe their environment, and learn key vocabulary. Learn more at betterfarm.org/upcoming-events and email info@betterfarm.org to register.

Vegetable production 101 workshop today with full sun and a lovely group, learning about regenerative ag and sustainable growing practices at Better Farm. Visit www.betterfarm.org for full list of free and low-cost upcoming events! Thanks to @cce_jefferson for partnering with us for this program. 🌱🧄🥬

May we raise children
who love the unloved
things – the dandelion, the
worms and spiderlings.
Children who sense
the rose needs the thorn & run into rainswept days
the same way they
turn towards sun… And when they’re grown &
someone has to speak for those
who have no voice may they draw upon that
wilder bond, those days of
tending tender things and be the ones. -Nicolette Sowder
